I was in the same dilemma once upon a time. I was between the V8 Vantage, 911 Turbo, GTR, and R8. I ended up with the Aston.
There is no doubt that on a race track all the others cars listed would destroy the Aston but I felt that it wasn't always about the numbers, how quick it could go to 100km/h or lateral g. If I wanted that I would've saved money and bought an Atom. I was after something different. When I got into the Vantage for the first time I knew it was for me. I think its the perfect blend of looks, luxury (the interior and exterior styling) and performance... and that exhuast note with the fuse pulled is simply awesome..
True the 911 was much easier to drive, the R8 felt faster and more balanced, and in the GTR I felt like a FIA GT3 racer driving through a video game interface... It was the Vantage looks and drives that brought me to my decision. The Vantage was the utlimate grand tourer that I wanted. I do alot of driving through mountain passes and odd track day passes with my Vantage and I have never been disappointed. I still always have that ear to ear grin everytime I put my foot down.
Ownership...
Its my summer daily driver. (I live in Canada, so it gets stored for winter) Maintence is roughly $1200 to $1700. Very few issues so far, when I did have an issue Aston Martin North America sorted it out immediately. 09-10 V8 Vantages have a stalling issue in hot weather which is cured by a simple reflash of the ECU.
Oh yeah.. the Sat Nav is truly garbage.. I wouldn't say fisher price but that certainly comes to mind...I'll never buy a volvo just on principle...
I would recommend getting the manual. I really disliked the sportshift. Downshifting was good but the upshift on hard acceleration was terrible, much too jerky for a supercar in my mind. I feel that they solved it with the Vantage S which is much smoother.
I will admit that I prefer a proper manual. Something about working the gears though the mountains makes me feel one with the car. The gear box is solid and the pedals are perfect for the heel toe. I only wish the stock throttle response was more crisp but I hear that can be solved with an ECU upgrade.
Hope this helps...

I have an 08 N400 manual and I have to say two things. It is the most elegant luxury car designed. It is underpowered.
My other garage mates are an M5 and a Lotus, and these are much better in terms of driving experience.
So the Aston receives highest marks in certain categories but it is certainly Not the fastest or most powerful car on the street.
This has now got me looking at Ferraris.......2005 430 Spider Blk/blk
2008 AM Vantage Nurburgring Edition(Sold)
2008 M5
2008 Lotus 211
2012 LR4
2005 Lotus Elise (track rat!)

My friend recently bought slightly used 2009 V8V for his DD and I have the 997.2 for DD. I test drove his car and took it for a ride with him about 10 minutes. I got back and drove my porsche and just right after i go out of my parking garage, i told my friend "you can't go wrong with porsche". For me the AM is something you have to get used to and for me it's a lil bit hard to drive aston around for daily and on the other hand lack of power too. Driving porsche for daily is very easy compare to AM IMO. Some ppl are comparing AM with turbo and if i'm the one choosing i would go for the turbo for sure. But if you're looking for luxury and elegant sports car that ppl will look every time you pass by or "pussy magnet" def go for AM compare to porsche!

I wouldn't get one as my dd that would have to be a used gallardo or Porsche 911 turbo, but can someone please explain to me why V8 vantage is severly underpowered? It has 420Hp which is only 10hp less then the R8, and the curb weight for the V8 vantage is 3,595 pounds, and the R8: 3,605 pounds.

And a 997.2 c2s is like 3200 with 385hp. That's why they are underpowered.

Why not. The V8 Vantage is really beautiful, very elegant. The interior is very nice too. And I love the sound... I know someone who had one for a few weeks, he didn't really like it, he didn't find the V8 Vantage "violent" enough for a sport car...
