Thread: My RX7 FD3S Re-Amemiya Twin Turbo Build

hey guys

well its been about 3 years that i've had my FD now
first the reason why i bought this car is because when i saw it for the first time, 1995 on south beach, i fell in love with the car

take your pick...the lines, the big tach in the center of dash, the pop up lights, etc... they all started a life long relationship with this car, then when i got my license, the hunt started

i found my car on, go figure, miami beach in november of 2008 and heres what she looked like, it was the cleanest one i've ever seen

bone stock besides the wheels and an aluminum AST

67k miles (body and motor) original grand touring SSM with black interior and glass sunroof :nod:








-99 spec lip
-more low!

working with a 3 piece wheel company the first thing for me was take care of the 2 things left on that list to make the car look perfect

so first things first...got me a 99 spec lip and some Racing Beat lowering springs (definitely the best lowering springs for the car)

then she looked like this



once the lip and stance was set...the next thing was the exhaust system

heat wrapped down pipe and mid-pipe

HKS Carbon Ti Catback

then came the day

the one that we all know is coming but none of us want to believe is coming

yup...roxy needed a rebuild...water seal went bad

and the best part was it blew on the way to a Mazda meet out here in So.Fla

so my reaction was documented...:icon_tdow



so here we go on the rebuild

picked me up a Rotary Aviation complete rebuild kit with RA 2mm seals

NICE!!!!!! You still left plenty of room for an LSX conversion!!!!

j/k, cool build

also picked up a spec clutch while the tranny was out








then i started the install of my V-Mount from RX7club.com forum member Eternal

heres the car on the way to the shop to get the piping welded



and heres with the it all welded up and ready to go






next came all the heat wrapping to keep Roxy's intake temps nice and low










during the build time of the car i picked up a set of Tein Basic coilovers, i had them on the car for about 500 miles....then i found a set of Tein Flex Coilovers with the EDFC package

then came all the fun modding

-White Wood 13" wheel
-Greddy e01 boost controller
-SuperPro Complete bushing kit
-Mazdaspeed Weighted Shift Knob
-Engine Torque Dampener

then i invested in what i've drooled over in all the magazine cars, in all the cars at the track, and in the spirit of all that is JDM love

butttt i love having twins so i figured the only proper thing for me to do is to go with a full twin turbo upgrade

so after a week of waiting, this is what showed up at my house, another present for Roxy

alright so i'm finally back from working, and going back into another semester of school

now let the build begin!!

latest update is that i now have every piece required to get everything in the car up and running, plus some nice little extras that i've been wanting/needing to do for a while now

so here we go:

TurboSmart FPR800 fuel pressure regulator
Bosch 1680cc Secondaries
Stainless fuel lines with Earls fittings
Secondary fuel rail (not sure of the brand)
Adapters to fit stainless lines to primary rail

Twin Greddy/Tial 38mm Wastegates
CX Racing Manifold Flange
Blank Wastegate Flanges

Suspension-
Tein EDFC

Mystery Part -
A front bumper that only one other person on this forum knows i'm getting lol
As far as i know, i havent seen any other person on this forum with it yet, so hopefully i'm the first
Its been ordered so now its just a wait till it gets here

alright so an update as promised

i got to pull apart the front of the car today.
tomorrow starts disassembly of the intercooler/rad setup
only have about 2 hours to work on the car everyday so it's gona be about 3 days of work to get the stock twins out of there

oh and i also got to assembly wheel to get an idea of what my wheels will look like when they're done... 18" ISS Forged RX-10 with step lips







i finally got all of the stock turbo system out of the car

this one motherf*#king down pipe nut that refused to let go...took me 2 hours of trying to be a proper mechanic till i said screw it and got the grinder out and went to town on it :nod:

made me feel a lot better to say the least :icon_tup:

so Monday begins fab work!!
well the ISS Forged fabricator will be doing the fabbing

i'll be installing the complete fuel system into the car
