2012 Infiniti JX
Well although my wife and I were and are still intrigued with the Range Rover Evoque, it is simply too small for us with our 2 boys. She currently has a CX-9 Grand Touring and the 7 passenger seating and practicality of room and function has served us well. I just remembered reading about the upcoming INFINITI JX which slots nicely between the unpractical yet sweet/unique FX and the Ginormous and thirsty as heck QX. Now that it has been released at the LA Auto Show and I have had time to build one online, we are both diggin it! The power is adequate, the technology (to be expected from Japan) is exceptional, and it fits the bill for "looks" for her and I both. And I would go so far as to say the inspiration came from the very popular and award winning Mazda CX-9!
I am impressed with the interior and options.
FYI... I designed a All-Wheel drive model in Pearl with Mocha interior.
nspired by Infiniti’s Essence concept car, the JX’s exterior is highlighted by its unique D-pillar treatment and sloping roofline. The front of the JX sports Infiniti’s signature chrome grille and a “double-wave” hood.
The JX’s interior is more derivative of Infiniti’s current products, featuring a familiar center stack and center console. However, the JX boasts some technology not currently found in any other Infiniti, including a new Backup Collision Intervention (BCI). Although backup warning systems are nothing new, Infiniti’s BCI actually has the ability to apply the vehicle’s brakes if it senses an impending rear collision.
Other technologies onboard include Infiniti Connection with Google Calendar, Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection, Lane Departure Warning and Intelligent Cruise Control.
Power for the JX is provided by Infiniti’s 265 horsepower, 248 lb-ft of torque 3.5L V6. Buyers can opt for front or all-wheel drive configurations, although a CVT will be the only gearbox on offer. The JX returns 17mpg in the city and 23mpg on the highway.
The 2013 JX35 will will hit Infiniti showrooms early next year with a starting price of $40,450, with the AWD model bumping that bottom line to $41,550. Check every option box and the JX can top out at $58,020.

The styling is "fluid & functional". It's not as striking as the Evoque. but then again, the Evoque is nowhere near as large and doesn't come with all the Tech as Infiniti. I can envision a Pearl on Mocha interior with a nice set of Wheels.
I eagerly await full testing and reviews...
But they are squarely targeting ACURA: Infiniti JX crossover takes aim at the Acura MDX - Autoweek

I saw the Infiniti, Lexus, and Acura "middies" at Tampa's auto show (which sucked)...tremendous vehicles but really lacking in space especially when the 3rd row is up. I'd be hard pressed to have 2 sets of clubs in the back if I had the 3rd row up...basically it is for taking people out on the town...no luggage, no kids with strollers, etc...
If I had 1 kid...no dog...I'd consider it...but on occasion I bring my sisters kids and husband and my family out of town...to say Orlando or Miami...luggage is a consideration along with golf clubs, strollers, and the numerous amounts of shopping bags that they collect on our Florida short stays. We would have to take two vehicles instead of my Suburban.
Granted stock...the Suburban is outclassed in fit and finish...but I didn't keep it stock. I love the interior of the Infiniti so good luck with the build...but for my lifestyle...space is the determining factor.

I understand that Evoque is quite small. However, I wonder why people insist on buying minivans and full size SUV when they have a family of 4. They haul strollers, coolers, nanny and lot of extra stuff when they really don't need to.
At least these cars are getting more fuel efficient. I still like sedans. Hate the body roll in an SUV.

Just wondering have you had any kids? Not for nothing...hauling a kid around isn't necessarily a simple thing...car booster seats, strollers (unless you plan to have biceps like Arnold), milk/diaper changing bag...then factor in your own crap if you travel...golf clubs, luggage, carry-on, etc...

Bro if we could get away with it we would just carry our kids in garbage bags and put a hat filled with milk and straw...reality is bit different.

I like it. I wish the mocha interior was available in the QX. Our choices were black or tan.

It aint for everyone. And thats just fine by me. I dont really care for the "big box" style SUV. Been there done that with a Navigator and Yukon previously. Too damn big and thirsty. These mid-size SUV that are more car-like are VERY useful vehicles and thus sale well. The Acura MDX and Mazda CX9 are Top Editor and Consumer choices for a reason.
