Speaking from experience, project cars evolve and tend to take on a life of their own. When you only have the goal in mind, you tend to ignore the $$$ you are spending and don't stop until the car is to your standards. Cars like this are built over time. I'm sure a big chunk of that $100k is in labor, and it adds up fast when you're spending $90+/hr at a high end shop.
I seriously doubt the guy woke up one day and said "I have $100k CASH!! I'm gonna spend it ALL on my Lexus IS today!!!".
    I think it's badass, btw.
    ^^What he said.

Personally, for that money my ass would find a Lambo or a Ferrari.
Like EPTXCarlover said, it general isn't a lump sum of money, it is spent over time. Also, from experience, when you start a project like this there isn't a set budget or cap on the amount one is going to spend on a project. The project only finishes when the owner hits that point where they are satisfied that they've hit their goals. Thus probably not even comparable to plopping down the cash on a 100+k in one shot.

They come with a 2JZ from the factory. Regardless if that is a swapped motor from a Supra or not.

He did all that to the car after he trashed it on a canyon run and bent the frame.

It all goes down to what you like
    Both can be equally fun..

Awesome. I want my IS300 to be like that. haha.

Though, honestly, if I had 100k to drop on/into a car right now, something tells me I'd probably get rid of the IS and get something more exotic.

Still, looks REALLY good, and is probably awesome to drive.
