Thumbs down US Department of Justice Demands Export/Surrender of Kaizo Skyline GT-R

2009 Nissan GT-R: US Department of Justice Letter : 60 Days to Export or Surrender.

These pricks should have better things to do such as cracking down on organized crime, terrorism and drug cartels. What a waste of tax payers' money.

This type of thing is not new. Back in the 80s soo many cars were being grey market imported and not complying with EPA or DOT. The DOJ has the authority to confiscate and destroy any vehicle that does not meet EPA/DOT and is driven on public roads - thats the law. Also, they do this without compensation. An export demand is much nicer than surrender and destroy.

At least they were nice enough to send a letter first instead of showing up with a tow truck. The law is the law-if we let everybody bring in whatever they wanted into the country it would be a huge mess.

What is the rest of the story? Is the car illegal?

Perhaps someone in the Justice Department is hankering for a R35? Seems ridiculous that this would require someone's personal attention based on its own merit. The crime can be equated to having any car with aftermarket modifications or having oem parts from foreign markets.

Edit: On second look might this be a hoax letter? Could he not keep the vehicle for track purposes and not have it registered for road use? Would be a hell of a prank to pull on one of your buddies.

a sheer and utter waste of tax money

A bunch of gas powered italian, german, japanese, and american things with four wheels. On order is a bunch of the same, and previously I had a bunch of the same. Oh and I fly, tool around on boats, and have been known to ride motorcycles.

Know a few people affected by this. They are still looking for a way around it. I hope the GTR's that are here remain.

Occupational (dealer plates)...not a cheap process, but doable. Then drive as many "race" cars on the street as you want, just dont be an idiot with the privilege...
