    Default What trim turbo should i use on my car?

    I have a 2004 s2000 and I have been looking around at some turbo kits but there are so many different types. How do i know what trim turbo i should use? I would like to go with a T3/T4. I will prob try to piece a kit together to try to save some money. Im not looking for a crazy HP increase (maybe between 70 or 100 HP) Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    I would look into getting the Greddy Turbo Kit, its 50-state street legal w/ CARB E.O #. Greddy uses a T518Z Mitsubishi turbo which will add about 100HP on about 5psi.

    Rev hard turbo kits are a lot less money and less quality, but the good thing is you can upgrade and get a GT30R BB or even a GT35R BB turbo as an upgrade option.

    I built an S2K with a 61mm turbo(basically a non ball bearing GT35r) and it was perfect. For your goals, something right around that size should suit you well.

    Two of my past cars have had GReddy Turbo Kits. They are easy to pass inspection with, easy to install, and are as reliable as a car with an OEM turbo set-up. If you still need more power then making future upgrades to get bigger numbers is always easier once the initial kit is installed.

    However, the S2000 really lacks bottom end power with all the torque and hp kicking in at the much higher revs in vtec. This is why supercharging is so popular among S2K owners. Torque and power are delivered faster than even the smallest turbos. For monster power a turbo is a good way to go without any parasitic loss, but for gains like you want I would definitely lean towards a supercharger set-up.

    Without checking the specs on GReddy's S2K kit for the 2.2L I would assume the GT35r and like sized turbos would be slightly bigger. They can make some sweet power, but still not as quickly as a supercharger could deliver it.

    SO...

    If you really want to go turbo with a set it and forget it mentality I would go with an off the shelf GReddy kit. It appears more expensive upfront than piecing something together, but the price difference once everything is said and done will be a lot smaller than you'd think. And you won't have ripped your hair out in the process!

    BUT...

    I recommend a supercharger to get the gains you want and having a car that will be more fun to drive on the street overall. The two main names for S2000s are Comptech and Vortec.

    Go with a good quality kit rather than trying to piece it together yourself. The manufacturer has already done the engineering, made the brackets, sized the supercharger or turbo charger, done electronic tuning to proved you with a chip or a burn, and in some cases done the emissions exemption requirements. It will cost you less in the long run buying it complete than paying someone to figure all of this out for you.

    The F20 loves the 35R, but a properly-spec'ed T3/T04 can make serious power too. I would recommend Lovefab, Ultimate Racing, Inline Pro or Full-Race.
