B18 A or C
I have recently come up with the grand idea to maybe pick up an old eg or ek chasis civic hatch with retarded high miles and then buy and build a B18 engine turbo it. I am just curious as to which block I should purchase and what approximate costs would be. Im thinking reliable DD ability with about 250-300 horse with boost. Also I dont have very much technical history as far as engine building goes but I think that this would be a good and (possibly/hopefully) inexpensive way to learn and I do have friends with experience that are willing to help out. So if anyone has advice/tips, and or ideas and opinions on the two differing engines please let me know. Anything would be much appreciated.
P.S. College student here so budget is somewhat limited.Last edited by uberdrift; 07-11-2009 at 06:02 AM.

K20 or K24 Turbo
GAME OVER!
ohh and 250-300. You can get that ALL MOTOR on a K-series with a medium build + tune
but back to b-series on a budget. B20z (CRV) Turbo or B18C (GSR) Turbo.Last edited by AMS MIKE; 07-11-2009 at 06:06 AM.

oh I know. As far as Im concerned a K series is just head over heals better than the B series but its the budget thats keeping me restricted.
BTW if anyone can also recommend a reputable place to find a B18 that would be great...also gonna check the local scrap yard for one.

as for a motor....
Specializing in JDM-USDM Engines & Parts...hmotorsonline.com (they ship)
ask for Steve, tell him I sent you.
or you can buy an already swapped car because someone needs cash. Check out Hondamarketplace.com (same as Honda-tech).
or check Craigslist and your local swap shops.
MANY deals can be found on Honda's, most everyone is either out of the game or getting out.

not to knock a Honda swapped car but there is little to no resale value....only worth what someone will pay these days. I have built my fair share of them for myself and customers.
I would also look into a WRX. Stock turbo + AWD and they KEEP their value.
Just weigh your choices and decide what you want to do. Just hate to see people throw money away at a Honda when you can get something else equal or better that holds value. I would not be saying this 3 years ago, but given the economy, thats my .02

yes, getting out of the honda scene. late 90's to mid 00's it was huge. Now not so much, so you will find A LOT for sale. My warning to you: you must know...what money you throw at it, you will never get back when it comes time to re-sell. So as a college student, is this a wise decision? That is up to you
Honda's certianly are simple engines and everything is easy to work on when it comes to B-series.

yeah i know but thats true with nearly any car. Any ideas of what kind of money I would have to throw at it in order to get my desired hp???
