In the event that they impound cars like this, are they crushed or sent back to Japan?

Must be a plain jane R34 and not a GTR. **R34 GTRs are going for far more than $15K USD here in Japan?

Hopefully most of the current owner will figure out legal ways to keep their cars. I'm pretty sure they would be safe if they registered the cars as off-road use only or limited road use etc.

Possible but i am 90% sure i've seen some full GTR's go for that price. - will admit the miles were extremely high. Far from the stories of almost brand new gtr's in Japan.
Yea, i heard the price of japan, girlfriend lives in japan for a few months of the year (she's a Japanese citizen). It took a lot of self control to not try and get one and lock it in a storage unit until the 25 years is up and i can import it (legally).

The kitcar route is actually the illegal route. It may be state legal, but DHS can still come and seize your car. To have a legal US Skyline, you have to get one through an NHTSA Registered Importer and then have a qualified shop (there's only one and I don't know if they'll even do a Skyline because of the stigma) modify it to US standards. There is a huge document that outlines all of the mods, including welding supports into the quarterpanel. And that only works for R33s. R32s and R34s never got certified. However, that doesn't matter for the cars that are currently in the country and have an NHTSA bond release. That is the most important document for any imported car. It is the only thing that states that the car is legally in the country. It is currently impossible to get one for a Skyline. The R34s that received valid bond releases fraudulently are allowed to stay, but no new ones will make it to the United States for another 11 years.
