As die-hard a Subaru fan as I am, I would be doing you a disservice if I didn't give my unbiased opinion. While it ultimately depends on what you plan on doing with the car long-term, to me, all things considered, the Genesis is the better bet.
    • Genesis has already been on the market a few years so Hyundai has had time to work out any issues.
    • Genesis is turbocharged from the factory so the performance potential out of the box is much better than the FR-S.
    • Genesis already has considerable aftermarket support for power, suspension and brake upgrades.
But of course, it all boils down to your personal preference and intentions for the car as I mentioned before.

Out of those two choices, I would get the Genesis without a blink of an eye.

Ultimately, it yet again depends on your intentions for the car. The 3.8 has more turn-key power and torque off the dealership floor. If you plan on stopping there, then the 3.8 will be a more suitable choice.

If you plan on modifying and upgrading the car for whatever foreseeable circumstances, then the flexibility of the 2.0 is the more suitable choice. The 2.0 is nice because you can essentially dial-in desired power with a good boost controller.
