the skull's the last mask we wear inside...
well, pretty cocky of me to post this under "Arts", but I think I just came up with my own piece for the opening exhibition of my tattoo shop / art gallery in September:
sorry for the bad pic...

pencil on fine grain heavyweight acid free paper 29,7 x 21 cm
i'm constantly looking for excuses to draw skulls and i'm intrigued by al kinds of masks, so here's a little explanation with the piece. I morphed from skull over a dias de los muertos type face to clownface back to skull. To me it represents the skull as the last mask to hide ones true toughts and feelings, a very powerful mask that you can't take off. Also both happiness and sadness are represented in ambiguous ways, as the dias de los muertos idea isn't one of pure sadness, and the clowns happy face may in fact conceal his sadness.
... hmm well, as english isn't my mother tongue i hope those that have actually read the above kinda understand what I mean...
All criticism is welcome

Cool concept and well-executed, but if it were my design (purely opinion, please take it as such), I would "tilt" the mask to the left to match the skew of the real skull on the right, and also "shorten" the chin of the mask to match the height of the other two visages.
Once again, that is entirely my personal opinion, and I'm a bit compulsive, so take my nagging desire for symmetry with a grain of salt.
