    Default Oh so predictable....

Mark my word... I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Milk will when best picture this year...

Sure... it may be the best movie of the year, and it may not...

But it will win off the subject matter alone, regardless of whether or not the movie is great...

Do you think it will win?

    Yes or No

I will let you know when I see it, as far as subject matter? Um...

Tugg Speedman: There were times while I was playing Jack where I felt...
    [pause]
Tugg Speedman: ...retarded. Like, really retarded.
    Kirk Lazarus: Damn!
Tugg Speedman: In a weird way I had to sort of just free myself up to believe that is was ok to be stupid or dumb.
Kirk Lazarus: To be a moron.
    Tugg Speedman: Yeah!
    Kirk Lazarus: To be moronical.
Tugg Speedman: Exactly, to be a moron.
    Kirk Lazarus: An imbecile.
    Tugg Speedman: Yeah!
Kirk Lazarus: Like the dumbest mother fucker that ever lived.
Tugg Speedman: [pause] When I was playing the character......
    ..............
Kirk Lazarus: Everybody knows you never go full retard.
Tugg Speedman: What do you mean?
Kirk Lazarus: Check it out. Dustin Hoffman, 'Rain Man,' look retarded, act retarded, not retarded. Counted toothpicks, cheated cards. Autistic, sho'. Not retarded. You know Tom Hanks, 'Forrest Gump.' Slow, yes. Retarded, maybe. Braces on his legs. But he charmed the pants off Nixon and won a ping-pong competition. That ain't retarded. Peter Sellers, "Being There." Infantile, yes. Retarded, no. You went full retard, man. Never go full retard. You don't buy that? Ask Sean Penn, 2001, "I Am Sam." Remember? Went full retard, went home empty handed...

I brought this up to say in Hollywood it's becoming where subject matter now seems have more precedence than performance or talent.

That was my exactly my point of why it will win...

Regardless of whether or not the movie sucks... which I personally won't be seeing, not my kind of movie... they will give it the award anyway, because of what the movie's theme is about.

Yes, and so I guess you have a problem with homosexuality. I guess you were cryin' when Brokeback Mountain was nominated hoping that it wouldn't win best picture because of it's subject matter.

With your logic, Brokeback Mountain should've won when it was nominated.

-The last installment of Lord of the Rings (the Return of the King) won because of the amount of money the franchise pulled in.

Hollywood also like granting Awards when someone else should've won a while ago, then to give it to them later for a performance that wasn't up to par.

With my logic above, maybe you're right, it could win, since Brokeback apparently was snubbed.

    This thread is now FTL

A great cast, director, script isn't good enough to win an oscar if it has a "gay" theme according to the above.

First... it was a Yes or No question - perhaps you missed the point...

I brought this up to say in Hollywood it's becoming where subject matter now seems to have more precedence than performance or talent.

That was my exactly my point of why it will win...
Correction: I should have said film community worldwide, not just Hollywood.

Can you honestly disagree and say there are not certain films that are praised by critics off the subject matter alone?

I said "it wasn't my type of movie", there are many types of movies that are not my types of movies, here are just a few.

    1. ANY movie directed by Kevin Smith / Dudes sucking face

    2. Chick Flicks / Romance

    3. Movies where the bride picks a male friend to be a part of her wedding, and he turns out to be a good guy, and they fall in love.. there's a bazillion of these, and I make my fiancee watch every single one alone.

    4. Horror Movies

    5. Anything tele-tubbies

    6. Anime

    7. Anything with Wesley Snipes

Let's stick to the films and past awards.
