I have to apologize for responding after 10 months. I do not spend much time in the Real Estate section of L4P.
Anyways, I am finishing my Undergraduate (5 year) Architecture degree this May. I will then be Mastering in Construction Management over in the Civil/Architectural Engineering College (same campus, in other Mies Buildings).
Your arch professor is not exactly right (although they have changed the setup a few times at IIT). Currently, Crown Hall's main level is split into 4 zones each being one of the 4 corners of the building. Through the five year architecture program:
-First and Second year students get their own corner on Crown's main level.
-Third years are in the raised basement which gets plenty of natural light.
-Fourth and Fifth year students study together in your choice of around 20 separate Advanced Studios. The 4th and 5th years are actually split between Crown Hall's main level and the building across the grass outside.
-All students also have access to a big industrial warehouse down the sidewalk, converted to a wood/ model shop with laser cutters, etc.
Also, anyone notice Crown Hall on Google's homepage a couple of days ago?
