tie clip
My job requires business casual, which is mostly polo shirts and button ups. I wear a tie from time to time, but not consistently.
Does anyone use the tie clip as well? It's a little "above and beyond" fashion idea. Do you think it would be too much for an office enviornment where wearing a tie seems dressy?
Has anyone caught flak for being too dressy?

This is what I do. I wear a casual suit every day at my office. Mind you it is very hot and humid in Southeast Texas. Dress as if you demand respect every day. People judge you by your garm. Even if it is co-workers and not the general public. When you dress like a million bucks, you will feel like a million bucks.

It's what Joel Bauer calls "wrapping the package." People judge you subconsciously in the first four seconds upon meeting you. As Bigdaddy put it, dress like a million bucks, get treated (and feel) like a million bucks. But getting back to your original question, no to the tie clip as well.

my 1st thought when i see a suit out of place is "trying too hard" - everything has its place, or not
but no on the tie clip - unless you like pocket protectors

No to a tie clip. What is stated above is good advice.

Tie clips are definitely coming back but you have to wear them right. I'd rarely rock one without a suit. Maybe with a cotton tie with your dress sleeves rolled up. More of a casual look.

Well, it's unanimous about the tie clip.
I guess I will also stick to the sporadic use of the tie since it always raises eyebrows.

^Totally agree!
When used right, a tie clip can make a million dollar suit look like a trillion. I use one frequently and I don't get anything but compliments on it. 8 out of 10 of my GQ magazine covers have men wearing tie clips. Get with the program and make sure its not a cheesy clip. Mine is a plain silver one from Express.
BTW, there is no such thing as over-dressed. You set the standard.

tie clip is good but depends on the type of suit and look you're going for. if you're wearing a well cut suit without too much adornment or accessories, a tie clip would look great. unforunately, imo, guys tend to wear them as a piece of jewelry to draw attention.
by all means, set the standards, but i think you can be overdressed. you can still standout without drawing negative attention to yourself.
