2013 GT500 200mph per car and driver
Did anyone happen to pick up last months Car and Driver. Apparently the 2013 GT500 will be able to top out at 200mph and not even require gas guzzler tax. If it stays in it's current price range I have to think this is a HUGE win for Ford. Any thoughts?

I'm not saying I would, but I believe a GT3 tops out at 193 and costs 140k Not sure a GTR can even touch 200mph

I can't think of too many cars I would trust breaking the 200+ barrier in.
Regardless, it's a nice feat for Ford if it's true. They're new line of Mustangs are very impressive in my opinion.-

Sub'd for the fireworks this thread has the potential to produce!
I agree; HUGE win for Ford. I hate Ford (bowtie all day, son!), but I really respect the way that company has taken care of business in recent years.
Would I go 200 mph in a Mustang? I admit it sounds weird at first, but if this particular Mustang is built to handle the speed, why not? Look at the Corvette; Chevy adds more to the z06 and zr1 than horsepower (suspension, brakes, etc).
With all that said, I good friend of mine drove a z06 down to the L4P John Wayne Airport event last year and got it up above 150+…he said it felt sketchy.-1971 El Camino: Blueprint Racing 383 stoker/Tremec TKO 600 5 Speed /3:73 Posi/Bench Seat/Lap Belts/Drum Brakes/Kinda’ Rusty

I'll try to find the article online but it goes into great detail on how they had to redesign the body work to create the correct down force as well as the suspension upgrades. I won't be the first one to try it but I probably would do it eventually if given the opportunity

It's funny how so many people act like this is still the 1990's.....Ford makes good cars now.

I'll be the first one to admit that I hate mustangs but you gotta give them credit where it's due. The regular 5.0 handles on par if not better than the m3 and that's not even the boss 302 or the gt500.

The Mustang (especially the new 5.0) has developed into a very capable car and Ford is building some quality stuff. It's not like some shade tree mechanic is throwing fart cans and nitrous at a 5 year old car. If Ford (or other manufacturers) makes something that reaches that speed, you best be sure it'll do it somewhat safely* as all it takes is one dumb ass to sue in this day and age.
*Driver behavior not withstanding.
