67 Supernake Build 2
I thought you all might like to follow my second Mustang project. SVT Supersnake is almost finished and will hopefully be on the road in the next couple of months. I cant give it much attention right now because i am busy finishing up Ironman Kirkham Cobra so it can go up for sale. I will continue to update the other threads as those car progress towards the finish line.
Anyway, the opportunity came for me to purchase Supersnake 069 that was being built by Unique Performance and i decided to buy it. This is probably one of the nicer cars i have seen from that particular company. The welds are great and the body kit was installed correctly by fitting the glass to the metal, instead of using filler to make the bodykit appear to fit correctly.
Here is a picture of the car at the auction back in 2008. Kind of ironic that i am from B'ham, Alabama and the person that originally ordered the car is a Doctor here in town. Poor guy probably lost a whole bunch of money on this car.
I got a chance to go to the shop today and see the car. The bodywork is not as complete as the seller said it was, but that doesnt surprise me. It seems that everybody is very dishonest right now with the current economic situation.
Overall, the panel fitment is very good. The rear of the doors, bumper, passenger fender, and headlamp panels will need some finishing work, but the majority of the bodywork is completed. This car has a metal bumper. Unique must have wised up in the end and ditched the horrible fitting and flimsy fiberglass bumpers.

The underside is in outstanding shape, minus where the last owner decided to start smearing seam sealer all over everything. Unique Performance had finally figured out how to replace panels and weld when it came to the later cars. The first ones were pretty rough though.

Shot of the Roll bar and floor pans.

Roll bar welds and functional Brake Scoops. This car does not have the tubbed wheel wells, which is fine by me. I will still be able to run 275 tires and i can install a fold down rear seat.

Engine Compartment
I am going with a TCI front end so i can install a new 5.0 Modular motor and 6 speed transmission. I am going to have the body shop carefully cut out the towers so that i can put them up for sale. No need to throw a good pair of towers in trash if somebody can use them.

Rear End Assembly. This came out of the parts car that i purchased. The car is a 68 fastback and was loaded with high end suspension and brake components, but the body work on the car was beyond terrible and the rear frame rails need some attention. So, it was best to strip the car of the parts for the SuperSnake and sell off the shell. It will make a nice project for someone that has a lot of free time to sand and rework the body.
The shop is going to start on welding in the special brackets for the TCP pushrod system and the subframe connectors tomorrow.
-TCP Pushrod Coilover System
-FAB 9 Housing
-Strange 31 splined Axles
-Detroit Locker 9" 3rd Member with 3.80 Gears
-PSE GT-40 Wheels with 245 Front and 275 Rear Tires

The parts Car sat outside for a while, which caused the wheels to take on a gold hue. I am going to need to find a way to restore them to their correct gray appearance.

Call me crazy, but the hood that is currently on the car just isn't my favorite. I have a 67 Shelby hood leftover from another project and i am most likely going to use it instead. Here is a picture of the hood i am referring to on the parts car that i stripped.
Here are the three hoods I have. The supersnake hood fits like crap and the underside is not finished. That, plus i used that hood on the other build. So, it will most likely not be used.

I'm going to need to put several hundred miles on the Ironman movie car before it can go up for sale. I hope to have it completed and on the road by August. It is very close to being finished. I will probably put it in the dupont registry. Any suggestions?
