SF Autoshow... dull. :( **PICS ADDED ** )
I thought this years San Jose show was a bust. I think the SF Autoshow is going for a tie. Anyone else that went, think the same way?
Every year, going down the main escalator of the North entrance, I'm usually greeted with something cool. Once year it was the Tesla. Another was a James Bond car (Aston?)
This year: Smart Cars.... I didn't know what to think.
I headed to the area that featured Lexus, Audi, VW, Ford, Mazda, Honda, Nissan, Toyota.
I'm probably just biased but I tried not to and yet I found nothing very intresting here, save for the Audi camp, and possibly the Nissan (they had the new 370Z and a GT-R) Oddly, since 2 GT-R's were at SR today, I was more blown away with those this morning than the one in the Nissan section since it's still roped off. I dont know what it is, but the interiors of all the other manufacturers, really just don't do a damn thing for me. I really do enjoy my Audi A5 even more after sitting in dozens of of cars.
At the Ford camp, the new 2010 Mustang was showing. It's a bit different but the interior appears to be the same. That really kills the car IMO. The new Mercury MKS ... I'm not sure if it's because I'm used to sedans that are low but the MKS was VERY tall. The roof was like 5' high. This car better have adjustable suspension height because it needs it badly!
The other section was the Infinity, M-B, BMW, Mini,Acura, Dodge, Chevy, etc.
The M-B's were looking rather nice. I still don't like the BMW interiors. The Infinity G series still look nice inside and out. Acura: I really, really do not like that front badge/grille. That's all I have to say about them.
Went over to the Dodge and the new Challenger was there to open and sit in (of course I've already done this a few months back at SR); wish they'd put up the Green instead. But orange was the color du-jour.
I breifly went to the Chevy and Pontiac areas. Saw the new G8... I don't know; I just don't think it's as good as the GTO. Just my opinon.
I headed over to the special areas where the Porsche, Astons, Bentley, Lambos, Lotus, Maseratis and Ferrari's hung. This was probably the bright spot of the whole damn show. A silver CGT was present in the Porsche area, A DBS and DB9 in the Aston corral, a red F430 Scud and Scud Spyder, a full fleet of Maserati's, Bentely Continental, a couple of Gallardo's and a black Muci rounded up the area.
The Mezzanine area had a lot of custom cars but I kinda whipped through the area a bit as I was suppose to be going back to the in-laws for dinner.
Overall, I think maybe I'm just getting too old for this. When I was younger, I think the anticipation of new cars that I might someday own, was the reason I kepts going. With 10 year intervals between cars, I think I've lost all interest in going to these shows anymore. Personally, going to SR is more satisfying... and I can talk to people that KNOW what they're driving. I cannnot believe how many people at this show know NOTHING about some of the technology or specs on some of these cars.... yeah, I guess I'm just getting old and cantankerous!
