Default C5Z or C6? Whats Your Vote?

Im heavily considering a Vette by fall, and Id like some good solid opinions as well as any real world experience. With a price limit of say 25k (Roughly), would you think its a better buy to go with a C5 Z06 or a C6 ? I would want a multi purpose car (daily driver if I feel like, strip, track day, cruiser) Not the king of the hill in any one category but just enjoyable and strong performer in all ways.

I'm unfamiliar with the major mechanical changes to a C6 over a C5 other than the Motors....

Thoughts on how the the cars compare as a whole?

I'd go C5Z myself. I've been looking at them myself, and you can get one with decent miles under 25k, with room for a few mods. And with the C5Z being out for some time, you'll more than likely get the car with a few mods already.

I'd go with the C5Z as well. It'll be the better all around car for the needs you listed above and I'll echo what Techart said, very mod friendly!

C5Z. I drove both before I bought mine (this was prior to the arrival of the LS3) and thought the C5Z had more personality and was more fun. Also is a bit more "raw" feeling. C6 is nicer inside for daily driving, mostly just more modern conveniences. Also has a targa top which is nice.

4 years for me now, no regrets. Only thing I dont like is the "Corvette guy" stigma that can come with it.

I'd save till you can get the C6Z. Much better looking car...more powerful and fun.

I would have a couple reasons pointing me towards the C5Z.

First, production numbers. The C5Z was roughly 23k altogether throughout all it's years. I looked up C6 numbers, and stopped at 2011 and was over 140k. The C5Z will stick out much better, and car guys wont pass you off as another 'Vette owner' but as a car guy, that actually might know what you're driving.

Second, the C6 is outdated. It's due for an update (C7) so either way, very soon, you'll be driving the non-current model, and therefore you should get one significant, such as the C5Z.

Really though, I think the C6Z is the way to go, if you can stretch it. It's obviously a stretch though.

I had a buddy pick up an 03 C5Z @ $14,900 with high mileage but the LS6 runs like a top still. Just my $.02

I used to have a C5Z06... and I have driven the C6 plenty of times...

Here is what I can tell you... more refined and better interior (not much more) of course the C6. Performance wise the C5Z is a bit quicker but the C6 is faster top end. Handling I am gonna have to give it to the c5Z06 light and very nimble... both taken on very well to mods... I think it's a matter of test driving both, finding the right one for the money... you really can't go wrong with any of those 2.

    This was my old baby:

    and i still miss it.

Oh, and to add... i think the chooped look of the back window of the C5Z06 is one of the best looking Vettes out there.

2011 Mustang GT will be faster...

But if you're stuck on the gold chains C6 with a bottle.

In what capacity? Quicker? Faster? Cool car for sure, but not faster.
