It depends on the model years you are considering when it comes to the C6. Personally, the way to go would be an 08/09 C6 with the LS3. But, if money is ANY concern at all, then you should go with an 03/04 C5Z and have plenty of money left to relax with. I had a C5Z a couple years ago, and it is a fantastic car. Bullet proof, fun, reliable, and 30MPG highway - whats not to love?

Yes, with 68k produced in 2011 alone, and a solid rear axle design that may be pleasant, but is still old technology. Let's not get into Mustang Vs. Vette because they aren't even direct comparisons, and the OP had no care in a Mustang to begin with.
Therefore, sticking with original post - C5Z

I really don't know if you are pull our chain... or what... but...
2011+ mustangs running mid to high 12 bone stock is great... and all... mustangs are fast...
but... a STOCK c5 Z06 ran 1/4 mile times of 11.97... I myself ran a 12.4 in the 1/4 mile with my 02 and i am NOT the greatest of drivers. That's for a 11 year old car... you tell me where FORD was 11 years ago.
C6's are running mids to low 12s... so... I really don't know what you are talking about here...
also... you can NOT compare the mustang to the corvette on the turns... it will leave it in the dust.Camere Photography - Your Vision. Our Reality. Automobile Photography and more.

It is going to be a matter of taste. I personally like the look of a clean C5 better than the C6, but the targa top would be nice to have, and you can get an automatic if you want it (I prefer them on DD if I am going through town at all). I would probably go with the C5Z, because it is more of a limited run and it has depreciated more already, so you probably wouldn't take as big of a hit, if any, when you go to sell it.

I vote for the C5 Z06 much better handling, more responsive engine and more special than the original C6 and it looks much nicer in my opinion. But if you can wait and save for a C6 Z06 then do it

I have the C5z06 motor in my V1.. Great motor for its displacement and runs like a top but is limited based on its GEN III architecture.. IF i were in the OP position. I would opt for the C6- the LS3 has so much more potential being a GEN IV and larger displacement.
C6 z51 package- is what i would look for used in your ball park.. C6Z06-LS7- is going to command a high premium.. go wit the LS3 and have some $$ for some mods.. cant leave these LSx motors stock hahha2005 CTS-V LS6 stockish

I pee'd myself when i read the mustang comment....SMH.......
anyways.... Fully stock on run flats I went 12.3 @ 112mph in my 02 c5z, I wouldnt even consider an LS2 C6 (might as well put in a tampon and get a mustang)....I guess in 2007 when GM went to the LS3 the car actually became a vette again.

Heres a video

Mods when I sold it: LG G5x3 cam, Kooks long tube headers, Billy Boat Bullet "cat" back, LMR Kill mode tune, CCW drag pack, CAI, and Pulleys.....
It made 440rwhp cam only full bolt on car which is pretty high for an C5Z@MikeFullerSucks on Instagram
