Here is what I know. She is the last boat completed by Steven's before the company shut down production to help the US in WWII. She is completely made of wood. I do not remember the displacement, but the 2 diesel engines are HUGE, I held on of the pistons and it was all I could do to hold it by myself. The generator is the exact same volvo engine model that powered his 45' sailboat before this one. It is believed to be the first US built privately owned yacht with hydrolic stabilization, push a button in the wheel house and two 20'ish wing extends from the hull to allow the boat to plane underwater in rough seas at the expense of about 2x the fuel consumption when it is not in use. Tony, that is way before they used aero on racecars! My father bought her from the grandson of the person who commissioned the original build! So we are only the second family to own it in almost 70 years.
Starting on the main level forward moving aft, first is the wheel house and main entrance into the boat. This area has everything you need to run her, steering wheel, nav, radar, large chart table and chart storage. This area has a head. There are nooks and crannies everywhere to store anything you might need at sea. Moving aft, you come into the galley, completely updated in 1999 with stainless appliances, dishwasher, full size oven and stove, full size refrigerator w/ various arms and straps to hold everything in place while at sea. You get the idea, a chef would be happy to work in this galley. Then there is a open breakfast bar area that opens into the main living room area. During the remodel we outfitted it with a front projection and 5.1 digital sound system with full control, updated recently to a flat screen. Finally there is the main aft deck with canvass walls that remove. It is nice in any weather to sit on the aft deck and relax.
Down below starting forward and working aft, is the crew quarters, sleeps 4 complete with head/shower, full galley and dinning area. Aft from there under the stairwell from the main level was converted from a poor storage area to a complete wine cellar. Next you move into the engine / work shop, being this is a wood boat the wood shop has some of the tools from when the boat was new! It is a great area to work. Next is the main stateroom with king size bed and full head with shower and finally the guest stateroom with two over size full beds and head with shower.
According to the log book this boat has been all over the world. The crew would deliver it to port of calls and owner would fly in to enjoy her. She was named Ranger out of respect for the serviceman in WWII.
When at anchor in the delta we would raft with friends and one friend had a large sail boat. If the winds weren't blowing he would raise the main sail and I would set up the projector to shoot onto it like a large screen and then I would set up speakers on deck and we would have "Float In Movies"! All the other boats in the area would get in their dinghies and come and watch movies with us. I know I have some good pics of the movie nights somewhere too. Good times!
